The parallels between the later days of Númenor and Nazi Germany always gave me chills, enough to not usually be comfortable writing in that era (I do sometimes get the feeling the German education and media systems were designed to make us feel guilty about this country's past), even though I find Númenor fascinating from a distance. And I'm sorry - I didn't mean to evoke these memories for you, at any rate - it wasn't an intentional comparison, although given the sort of atrocities being committed, I suppose it may have been inevitable.
