Musings on Poetry, by Elleth

B2MeM Challenge:
O70: Book Titles: Dead Poets' Society; Evil, Villains and Monsters: Uglúk
Format: Drabble
Genre: Character Study
Rating: Teens
Warnings: Allusions to torture, injuries, death
Characters: Uglúk
Pairings: N/A
Summary: An Uruk's musings on poetry.

There's poetry to everythin'. You won't believe it, rat, but that's the way squeakin' sounds, and the yellin' when you twist a bone just right. They're sayin' hearin' it is an elvish strain, fah! Can't be, their blood's thin in me, pointy-eared bastards too fine for sunlight. Uruk-hai walk in it! If there's elf in me, it's what the first Orcs had. Nearly as good as Uruks those were, stronger than the poncy Lórien maggots, or even those horse-men. Riders fancying themselves poets when all they'll be is dead soon. Their only poetry'll be their dying sounds, now that's music.

OMG brilliant use of those two prompts... Twisted as it is, I find it very legitimate to think that sounds of torment and death might really have been an orc's idea of beauty (that is to say, they don't hate beauty but have a different idea of what comprises beauty).

I love the "only poetry'll be their dying sounds, now that's music." As I was always told when playing, just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so music is in the ear of the listener. Obviously your Uruk listened well.

Definitely in character with what the Uruk-hai would find--beautiful! Well done!
