I'm Grey_wonderer here on LJ and on DW and several other places as well, but certainly not everywhere. I am very pleased that the organizers of B2MEM have set up this event because it means there will be new Tolkien-based fan fiction posted. I like events that keep the fandom alive. I am a hobbit fan and I enjoy reading hobbit fan fiction. I also like reading stories based on "The Hobbit" that involve the dwarves of Thorin's company. Although I have written a few things, I don't enjoy recommending my own stuff, so I'm going to recommend someone else's work, since the instructions above give me the option to do that.
The story is a multi-chaptered, post-Quest, Lord of the Rings-based, g-rated, story with Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took as the two central characters. The author has started her lovely story at the point where Merry receives word that King Eomer is ill and is requesting to see him one more time before he dies.
The story reads like a continuation of Tolkien's own work, and to this point, is faithful to the original. There are many OC's, including a wonderful young hobbit lad named Jamy and there are familiar characters from Tolkien's world as well. This is a story in progress, so if you decide to read it, keep in mind that the author, Elanor, is still working on it. It's called "A Secret Gate" and here is the link to the chapter list page. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
