Admittedly, making the story a little overwhelming was part of the point of the fic - I could have edited out some of the worldbuilding, but Tauriel learning that the East wasn't as depopulated as the books make it seem would have been an overwhelming experience, I think, so your concrit actually shows that I've hit the mark of what I was trying to do - somewhat, at least.

I'm glad the rest of it appeals to you as well. :)
