Perhaps it's my mood, but in the second half I could not help focusing on Celebrian, and fearing for her future. She's the last person one would expect to see broken! Terrifying. I guess I should have felt fear for Maedhros in part one, but he was already a bit broken, and Maedhros-suffering is never a shock or a surprise. But then, throughout, there is Elrond... my heart goes out to him. You really highlight what a difficult life he has, losing what he loves again and again, and how brave he is in the face of it all.
