It's unmentionably late...

Compared with my response? Almost a year later? Image (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

No, not unmentionably late. :^)

Kei, thank you so much for this wonderful comment to Winter's Drums. Really, "thank you" does not suffice. The past year has proved to be challenging for me to be engaged in fandom, particularly with regard to fic, and I have returned to your comment (as well as others' here) to help keep my chin up.

Maybe an icy, calculated sanity rather.

Ooooh, yes! My version of Sauron has his challenges as far as mental compartmentalization is concerned, but he is not insane. You hit the nail on the head as to what I want to convey regarding my version of Sauron: "the absolute logic he imposes on the world around him" and "a very different, unsentimental view of reality." Exactly.

Oh, and he was impaled on that stick. Not tied onto it like some weird kind of banner, not draped gracefully on the end.

Tolkien's description of Celebrimbor-as-a-banner is pretty fleeting so that leaves plenty to the imagination. Mine doesn't veer toward the gracefully draped or simply being tied up, but toward something much more horrific, not gratuitously, but because war and torture are, in fact, horrific.

Thank you again for reading and the very much appreciated commentary. Worth its weight in gold. :^)
