What a lovely, generous comment! Thank you so much. I love Tolkien's historical framework--and the counting story really is more fun if you don't have to think of it as being literally true. (Young Miriel must have been quite indignant when she was told the part about the original wives all loving their husbands more than anything else Arda...I imagine that even at the height of her romance with Finwe, she was the type to put her work first.)
