We know of Halbarad's calm bravery from his statement at the "evil door", and I wanted to expand on that and give a deeper glimpse of what he might have been thinking on that last journey. I've been carrying around his back story in my head, if not on paper yet, for years, and this grew out of all those jumbled notes and thoughts.
