My impression of a Noldorin skew towards males comes not so much out of Tolkien's obvious bias, but out of the fact that so many wives/fiancees stayed behind -- named ones, even! -- while we never hear of a woman whose mate refused to follow her. That is not to say it did not happen, of course. But it is somewhat tempting to visualize many of the women being practical, and staying.
Anyway, I have decided to make all my OCs women unless there is a very good reason not to. (Like.... um... if I want someone to get hit in the crotch in an amusing way?)
