If for some reason you cannot make a subject line appear, please write and bold the relevant information as the first line of your prompt.

The subject lines and/or bold text will allow participants to easily scan for prompts they're interested in.

For example:

Subject line-- Frodo and Aragorn, gen, hurt/comfort at the Field of Cormallen
Comment-- While Frodo is unconscious after being rescued from Mount Doom, Aragorn cares for him.

OR

Comment-- Fëanor/Nerdanel, wedding night, sexual content

On their wedding night, Fëanor and Nerdanel end up not sleeping at all, as they are too busy enjoying each other.

Éomer, Merry; gen; epistolary fic

[personal profile] dreamflower 2015-02-26 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
We know that Éomer wrote to Merry at the end of his life, but it seems logical they would have had other correspondence over the years. It would be really neat to see the letters exchanged between the Lord of the Mark and the Master of Buckland.

Eowyn, Original Female Characters; gen; friendship fic

[identity profile] just-ann-now.livejournal.com 2015-02-26 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I 'd love to read something about Eowyn's relationships with other women in Meduseld. Did she have any friends to confide in, either while she was growing up, or during the events of the story?

Any elf or dwarf, gen, friendship/family, AU, Third age

[identity profile] me-llamo-berry.livejournal.com 2015-02-26 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Any elf or dwarf character is raised in Rohan. They were kidnapped for (insert reason here) maybe, and just left in Rohan as children, and were raised there. Do they ever leave to find their heritage? Or are they content to believe their family is dead and stay with what they know? What about their family? Are they actually dead? Or are they devastated and believe their child is dead? Are they still looking, but just not looking far enough south? How do the people of Rohan react? Distrust? Open arms?

Before the War of the Ring and during, preferably. How do they react to the members of the Fellowship? If character raised in Rohan was Gimli or Legolas, who replaced them to represent the dwarves or elves? How do the events change as a result? What happens after?

Don't do too much fluff, a bit of tension in there would be nice.

(Sigh seems any prompt I'm going to do will be AU. Oh well.)

Éowyn and Lothíriel, gen, the first Shieldmaiden

[identity profile] ladyelleth.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Lothíriel is about to marry Éomer and become Queen of Rohan, but grows nervous the night before the festivities. She seeks out Éowyn for comfort, who tells stories to pass the time and to familiarize Lothíriel a little more with Rohirric culture and tradition - among them Éowyn's favourite about the first Shieldmaiden of the Rohirrim, and how that tradition began.

That story could be based on Germanic myth (Hervor (II) from the Hervarar Saga, maybe?) and history, or canon (or both). Encyclopedia of Arda (http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/s/shieldmaidens.html) has some interesting thoughts, and there's a reference in HoMe VIII stating that Éowyn says that women must ride now, as they did in a like evil time in the days of Brego [> Aldor], when the wild men of the East came from the Inland Sea into the Eastemnet.

Elfwine the hellion

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
For Elenbarati

Eomer and Lothíriel have a son, Elfwine the Fair, who must be about Eldarion's age. With a name like that, I bet he's a hellion - he'd have to be, wouldn't he? - doubtless with mad equestrian skillz.

Posting from an IPad app so unable to use a subject line. Sorry.

Eowyn, Eomer, Theodred, learning to ride a horse.
(Other characters optional and up to the author)

Since Rohan is the land of the Horse Lords, it is important to all youngsters to become expert riders. Naturally, the lads would be taught to ride, but would the young girls? Or would Eowyn be an exception? Maybe Eomer or Theodred would teach her in secret? Or she would learn secretly and surprise them? Or they would all learn together?

Your choice. One or all learning to ride.

Arwen in Edoras

[identity profile] suzll.livejournal.com 2015-03-09 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aragorn and his knights, and the people of Lorien and of Rivendell, made ready to ride; but Faramir and Imrahil remained at Edoras; and Arwen Evenstar remained also, and she said farewell to her brethren. None saw her last meeting with Elrond her father, for they went up into the hills and there spoke long together, and bitter was their parting that should endure beyond the ends of the world." -ROTK, pp. 955-6.

The reasons why are vague at best, but Arwen chooses to stay behind in Edoras while her family goes onward; presumably Aragorn regroups with her after he turns back from Isengard, but she's got at least a few weeks of chilling with a bunch of random Rohirrim plus Eowyn before he comes back. I would love to see fic about her interactions with the Rohirrim, processing her grief for losing her father (and mother, tbh), her getting to know Eowyn, really anything about this moment in time.

I find it fascinating, too, that Rohan of all places is the site of her final parting with Elrond. Extra brownie points! you could delve into this somehow!

Coming of Age

[identity profile] engarian.livejournal.com 2015-03-12 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
In a society built around horses and their movement through the grasslands, I assume that a boy's coming of age might revolve around horses and he might, perhaps, even be given a horse of his own to care for. But what about the women? Do they also have their lives revolve around the herd? Do they also receive a horse when they become 'adult'? Or are they treated almost as a trade good - a different breeding stock to be passed to a different tribe when the girl begins her menses? Choose a child and follow him/her through their coming of age time.

Eowyn as a warrior/ Dernhelm - Gen

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-03-13 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
When Eowyn rode with the Rohirrim host to Minas Tirith as Dernhelm, was this the first time she had ever donned this disguise, or had she ridden with the Riders before?

"There seemed to be some understanding between Dernhelm and Elfhelm, the Marshal who commanded the éored in which they were riding."

How much did Elfhelm know and had Eowyn ever ridden with his men before? Who trained her to fight.

Did she ever use a sword again in the future?

Thorongil in Rohan - Gen

[identity profile] lindahoyland.livejournal.com 2015-03-13 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
How quickly did he fit in? Was he as good a horseman as the Rohirrim? How did he get on with the King and Queen and their children? What did he learn in Rohan?
