This is rather melancholy. I am sure that Elrond was writing that more as a form of catharsis, rather than because he thought anyone would see it. I'm sure he'd have been most distressed to learn that Aragorn had!

But Arwen is there for him, and truly, there's no place she'd rather be than by his side.
