This is just marvelous! I love Elrond's praise of Bilbo's scholarship--it probably made the dear old hobbit's day, and I can just imagine him beaming from ear to ear.

In Middle-earth, the term "living history" has a whole different meaning than in our world, with so many who are still living through millennia, not only Elves, but Istari, and even Ents. All would have their own POV, and their memories touched by their own experiences.
