Thank you! For years, I couldn't imagine ever wanting to write Tolkien fanfic. His creation felt too perfect already, something that I couldn't presume to tangle with. But then I realised that he leaves us so many gaps that we can fill in without any disrespect to the original - emotions that are just hinted at, and people and events and great stories which are sometimes no more than a single sentence in the appendices. I've found that writing in those gaps has only increased my appreciation of the original.
