Summary: A parley takes place at Helms Deep
The Dunlending looked terrified; battered and bloodied from the skirmish that had brought him and a half-dozen fellow captives to kneel before Thengel King in the Great Hall at Helm’s Deep. Far more had been left sprawled on the grass where the Deeping Coombe emerged into the plains of the Westfold.
Despite his fear, in broken Common Speech, he asked, “Please allow….. dead to fall…” Unable to find the words, he broke into his own tongue, then fell silent, shoulders slumping in despair.
“Did anyone here understand that?” Thengel demanded. “Did he just ask to kill himself?”
From the side of the hall, the tall Dunadan from the north who went by the name of Thorongil, his dark hair and grey eyes standing out among the pale-haired Rohirrim, spoke up in the same fluid syllables that the prisoner had used.
The Dunlending babbled back at him, gesturing with bound hands towards his fellow captives.
Thorongil turned to face the king, “He asked if you would allow them to offer up funeral rites for their fallen.”
