Summary: There are multiple advantages to not sleeping, but Celeborn finds one better than the rest.

There were advantages to rarely being able to fall asleep.

Celeborn was able to do more work than most in his position could each day. He was free to enjoy the stars as they had been in his youth, at least on moonless nights. He was an elf, so at least he didn’t have to worry about dark circles under his eyes like Men did.

But the most important was being able to avoid Irmo’s domain more than most could.

Some might enjoy dreams, but they were torture to him, nothing but impossibilities and memories of a long gone past.

Good for him, that he can enjoy those moonless nights--but a sad thing that those memories and dreams are so bitter that they must be avoided.

Thank you! :) I feel like in some ways, Celeborn has a story as sad as anyone else in the books - he's always the one left behind, whether by death or sailing...

Thank you! Yeah, at least he can stay awake, though I'm sure at some point he has to sleep and face them...

Thank you! :) It is sad that his dreams and memories have to be avoided, but I feel like that'd be true for a lot of Tolkien's characters - especially the ones that had happy realms, then watched them be destroyed, then found a second (or third or fourth) only to see the same thing happen again..
