I don't think I would have written any LotR fic if it weren't for people like just_ann_now and alex_quine on my f-list and then being introduced to tolkien_weekly. Posting drabbles in public in a community that felt safe and welcoming made it possible for me to venture out into other communities and challenges, so I couldn't agree more about how we need to welcome new people and make them feel at home. I haven't managed to get rid of my inner censor, but I guess there's still time for me to stop the pre-critique that stops me from getting started on a lot of things. This was a good essay for me to read.
And I wish I had even an ounce of artistic ability in my veins, but I'm kind of the anti-artist so my skill is in admiring the talents of others. : )
