Summary:I am imagining Rivendell as a U shaped glacial valley

VISTAS

Sam draped a cloak warmly over Frodo's dozing form, and looked out across the valley. Master Elrond knew what he was about, settling here. The huge, rambling house clung to one hillside, leaving a broad, flat, valley bottom to cereal crops and herd beasts.

Fat cows trawled the flood meadows and thickly fleeced sheep grazed higher slopes, below the treeline. There was fish in the river, game in the woods, and mountains protected from the worst of the weather.

He could see why Mister Bilbo liked it, but Sam longed for the rolling hills and open vistas of the Shire.

As a wise woman said long ago: "There's no place like home. There's no place like home."

Lovely!

What a lovely glimpse of Rivendell, and of Sam's heart.

Oh, what a beautiful picture of Imladris you've given us, Elwen! I love it. :) But of course Sam would still long for home!

A lovely insight into Sam and a great description of Rivendell.
