Sword and Bow, by Starlight (Beregond)

B2MeM Challenge: n41 Steward and his sons: Sword and bow
Format: Drabble
Genre: General
Rating: General
Warnings: None
Characters: Beregond
Pairings: None
Summary: "... Things may change when Faramir returns. He is bold, more bold than many deem." (Minas Tirith, TLotR)

"You have to wonder why he picked Ithilien," one of the men in the mess said. "Why not the guard? Or Tower garrison? Why not his brother's company in Osgiliath?"

"Ithilien is a half-forgotten country," another said. "Boromir is sure in judgment. Faramir?"

"Ithilien is holding the enemy at bay," Beregond said, unable to restrain himself any longer. "I would not question the lad's bravery."

"Ithilien has not seen war in years!"

"Nor have you, thanks to their protection. Boromir may be Gondor's sword, but Faramir is her bow, both scout and first line of defense. Never forget it."

Very true!
Boromir Lord of Flash
Faramir Lord of Sneak
LOL

Nice! So very in-character for Beregond, who so clearly adores Faramir, and his assertion about the sword and the bow is spot-on.

And thus the Rangers of Ithilien are underestimated and disregarded just like the Rangers who protect the Shire. No wonder there was such an affinity between Faramir and Aragorn.

I just loved this. I compiled the prompts on the card, so it is a treat to read works inspired by them!

I love the way Beregond defends Faramir. I enjoyed this one very much.

They don't appreciate just how important it is to have the Rangers there in Ithilien. Excellent characterization of Beregond.
