"You have to wonder why he picked Ithilien," one of the men in the mess said. "Why not the guard? Or Tower garrison? Why not his brother's company in Osgiliath?"

"Ithilien is a half-forgotten country," another said. "Boromir is sure in judgment. Faramir?"

"Ithilien is holding the enemy at bay," Beregond said, unable to restrain himself any longer. "I would not question the lad's bravery."

"Ithilien has not seen war in years!"

"Nor have you, thanks to their protection. Boromir may be Gondor's sword, but Faramir is her bow, both scout and first line of defense. Never forget it."

Thank you, I appreciate that! I was so uninspired with this and started writing it three or four times (you would not think it, such a short fic and all...) The lesson I learned: when it's not working, just sleep on it rather than stay up trying to somehow make it work ;-)
