Summary: Gondor never aided them, but now they were aiding Gondor.
The day you put on that star brooch, you know you will die. It may not be for another day, or another twenty years, but that day you first feel the certainty in your bones.
Gazing over the Pelennor, Galron almost curses fate for bringing them to this pass. Almost. None in their line but the Chieftain has been in Gondor since the founding; now Halbarad lies dead under a mound, others wounded, among them his own son.
Then he remembers: wounded, but alive.
That is why he fights.
That is why he will keep fighting.
