Summary: Little rituals before leaving home

She has dismissed the attendants to fit his armor herself. Théodred's death was a painful reminder that life is fleeting, and she will not let him cleanse Isengard without this last contact.

Armoring a man is, thankfully, a long process, and she takes her time. He is very patient, lets her have her way, but grins when she comes to the mail.

"You forget, Dúnhere, that I have had years to figure the trick. Now, sit."

He obeys, but pulls her down with him.

"Dying for you would be no sacrifice."

"I'd rather you live--"

His kiss silences her protest.

I love the idea of a wife arming/armoring her husband, and that she won't let him depart without this ritual--also that she's figured out all the tricks.

(Conversely, my Minas Tirith infantry guys have a running joke that it's great to date a Houses of Healing girl because she'll be the fastest at getting a guy out of his armor ;) )
