O72 - Dwarves in the First Age – The Awakening of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves

B2MeM Challenge: O72 - Dwarves in the First Age – The Awakening of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves
Format: Drabble
Title: The Gift
Genre: General
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Characters: Aule, Eru Iluvatar
Pairings: N/A
Summary:  Everyone deserves a birthday gift

Aule.  It is time.  Come with me, my son.

Joy filled Aule’s heart as he followed where Eru Iluvatar led.

Appearing unseen in the darkness of the first  of the seven caverns where in he’d placed the seven  Dwarves, Aule watched as the strong stocky figure stirred in his sleep, rolled over, and embraced the slightly smaller figure laying beside him.

Atar, who is—?

You made the fathers.  I made the mothers.  Did you think that the seven whom you created should go through life alone?  They deserve to love and be loved, no less than my other Children.

A/N: I know that it is said in canon that Durin the Deathless "walked alone", but I don't think that precludes him having been provided a spouse.  It's possible that some tragedy befell her when they first emerged from the place of their waking, such as an encounter with one of Melkor's corrupted beasts... but that's another story.

I love the fact that Eru provided for these, who were not even of his own creation.
