Characters:Balrog
Summary: Balrogs are mean

His was the mind most like unto Eru, with strength and wisdom greater than all the others, so why was he not the chosen? Melkor showed us his image of what Eä could be, a darker and more majestic vision than their simple minds can fathom.

Melkor, who taught us to fashion form out of shadow, hearts out of flame; to cloak ourselves in darkness, fuel our infernal fire with wings like bellows in a forge, to craft flails and axes worthy of our might that we may crush our enemies with hatred and vengeance.

Who would dare challenge us?

Oooh, what a nifty way to combine your cards!

His was the mind most like unto Eru - that's a very striking thought; I like it.

I love the second paragraph, all those metaphors-made-real, form out of shadow, hearts out of flame.

And the delicious question left hanging by the last line - well, they'll find out, won't they?...

I love the fact that the wings fan their fire. Great visual.

But, but, but, do Balrogs have wings? I mean real wings? Never mind I am being silly. I am doing a Balrog thing too. But it won't be beautiful and elegant like this one!

(You got off the bio! I couldn't finish it in time to ask you look at it. But now it is done--half of it only. Doing it in two parts, the rest later.)

You silly person. This is beautiful; mine is a crack!nonfic. You'll get to read it first. The Encyclopedia of Arda sets me off (which it often does) spending pages and endless citations supposedly supporting both sides (only if one does not read English very well and has no sense of logic or Tolkien). His Balrogs actually have great big fiery flapping metaphorical wings--the biggest ever, almost shutting out the light of the sun!!

Does Shelob's mother have wings--the great spider Ungoliant? Her imaginary wings must have been really big because they carried her all the way from Valinor, the surburbs of Tirion actually, after she had eaten half of Aman. So spiders don't really have wings. It is fantasy last time I checked. I hate to raise that point publicly in the fandom which takes the discussion so seriously.

How about those pictures of Tom Thumb Fingolfin wounding the Mega-giant Morgoth with a sword the size of an embroidery needle and causing a wound so large that the injured dark Vala could never walk without limping again. Oh, really? Interesting interpretation of the canon description. The world needs more of these discussions. Got a headache. Want my morning nap.
