Creators' Notes (optional): I began some of these dribbles for the "Canon Couples" card in 2012, and decided to see how many more of them I could complete this year.
The title is a line from the song The Evening Star by Jon Anderson, which inspires this poem.
Summary: Elwing flies to her love.

My Heart Will Have Wings to Meet You There

Unexpectedly, I am lifted up, away from the wild waves
that crash and roar beneath me; I have wings!
But I cannot turn back to my sons;
may our enemies find mercy on them.
Forward then, to the Uttermost West
where my belovéd is bound.
May I find him
safe from harm!
Once more,
together.

*facepalm* I quite forgot I had already posted it!

I'd been marking them off as I went, and this one had no X by it. But this is the preferred version, as I worked on the word count again before posting.

The first one was already good, but I like this version a little better too. "may our enemies find mercy on them" is a great line.

I've never understood how she could leave her sons but that's how Tolkien wrote it. Lovely dribble, as always.

PS I love that song too and usually play and replay it when listening to the CD.

I've always thought that she believed (rightly or wrongly) that it was the presence of the Silmaril that was driving Maedhros and Maglor mad, and that by taking it where they could no longer get ahold of it, she might break the spell, bring them to their senses, and spare her children, whom she knew she could not otherwise save.

I love several other songs on that CD; I think "Beware the Wolf" comes in second, though I also love their cover of "The Battle of Evermore" and "Jon Bariliman". And, well, most of them...
