I am not going to start listing mystery novels I have loved because I made a rec list for someone once of my 100 favorites--I think I lost it with a computer crash also! Off the top of my head I think of Dorothy Sayers, Georges Simenon, Eric Ambler, and Janwillem Lincoln van de Wetering as some I read repeatedly. The only ones I have on my Kindle at the moment are a few of Dorothy Sayers and Georges Simenon. But Icelandic is definitely intriguing me!

Ooh, have you read 'Where the Shadows Lie' by Michael Ridpath?

It's an Icelandic setting with a Tolkien fandom twist. I thought it quite amusing. I mean, it's not Sayers, but worth a read, I'd say.

OMG! I'll look that up! Sounds amazing. I've found I do often read mystery novels for the setting and cultural differences. They do not have to be a literary classic to hook me. That's a bonus. I'm not a snob about run-of-the-mill mystery novels. I've read shelves and shelves of them in my life.
