B2MeM 2018: March 18 Prompt

Fanwork Prompt:
Create a fanwork inspired by one or more of the following musical terms. You can use the mood, the literal or figurative meaning, a different meaning of the word, or anything else you like.

  • Accent: Emphasize, make a particular part more important.

  • Brio (Italian: vivacity, fire or energy) appears as an instruction to performers; for example, allegro con brio, meaning fast with brilliance and fire.

  • Crescendo: Growing (i.e. progressively louder).

  • Divisi: Divided (i.e. in a part in which several musicians normally play exactly the same notes they are instead to split the playing of the written simultaneous notes among themselves).

  • Elegy: An elegy (French: élégie) is a lament, either vocal or instrumental.

  • Grave (Italian: slow, solemn) is used as an indication of tempo and mood, meaning slow and serious.

  • Harmony: The simultaneous combination of tones, especially when blended into chords pleasing to the ear; chordal structure, as distinguished from melody and rhythm.

  • Hymn: A hymn is a song of praise, whether to a god, saint or hero.

  • Morendo: Dying (i.e. dying away in dynamics, and perhaps also in tempo).

  • Subito: Suddenly (e.g. subito pp, which instructs the player to suddenly drop to pianissimo as an effect).

  • Tranquillo: Calmly, peacefully.

  • Virtuoso: (Noun or adjective) performing with exceptional ability, technique, or artistry.
