I really like this. The dialogue has the feel of how hobbits "use light words" at grim times. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I hate it when I don't know someone's name and know I should. Good on Erestor for eliminating the awkward (or amplifying it--I'm not quite sure which it is.)
