Home Comforts

“… so there it is, sirs.”  The black-clad equerry anxiously finishes showing the Fellowship around the house arranged for their stay in the City. “I hope ‘tis satisfactory – we have little experience of accommodating Dwarves, Elves or Halflings…”

It will do very well.  Legolas is delighted at the small laurel-tree flourishing in the courtyard. Gimli’s satisfied with the solidly-built stone;  Merry and Pippin pleased they can sleep on the ground floor. And when Sam begins preparing supper later in the well-appointed kitchen, Frodo’s sure there are tears in his eyes. Though Sam insists that’s only the smell of chopped onions…

Thank you. Poor Sam so regretted having to throw away his precious cooking-pots in Mordor - I'm sure being able to potter about cooking again, and feeding Frodo up, would have restored his happiness no end...

I've always thought they'd rather be together somewhere low-key, for those weeks in Minas Tirith, rather than necessarily in guest rooms in the Citadel. Aragorn's pretty busy, after all, and the Hobbits in particular I thought might find the upper Circles and the Citadel a bit vertigo-inducing!
