Petrichor
Gentle, clean,
Haudh-en-Ndengin's grass breathes
Over bones, rusting blades,
Relief.

A lovely contrast.
Have you read Cirdan's story in which it is Maedhros who makes the grass grow?

Here, for you (hope you like it):

‘It’s a good thing, I don’t mind the rain’, said Fingon, laughing, ‘considering where I live!’
He made a wide sweeping gesture; a spray of fine droplets flew from his braids and across Maedhros’s face.
‘Don’t you love the smell of the countryside after rain?’

***

Sun sparkled on rain drops beneath the eaves of Taur-im-Duinath.
‘Close your eyes’, said Maedhros. ‘Smell the wetness on the grass and on the trees.’
‘Why?’ asked Elros.
‘You need to know how things ought to smell to detect anything out of place that might be dangerous. And also…’
‘And also?’ asked Elrond.
Maedhros gave him a cautious smile.
‘And also just because, for its own sake.’

Oh good, I'm very glad you like it!
I must admit that I actually posted it to my journal in the meantime, in a fit of panic that maybe it was really awful. (When I re-read this sentence, it doesn't seem to make sense, but I guess I'm a bit strange that way.)
I see you've posted the cinquain on SWG with the rest of your fics, now! That's great, because that's the real home of my Maedhros stories as well.

An excellent melancholy reigns here.

Morgoth thinks he has won, but nature will always have the final say in the end.
A beautiful poem for a tragic place. X
