Bless Hobbits! What would this world be like without them? Most likely far too solemn, I suspect. Here Merry lies, newly wakened from the Black Breath, and he’s already thinking of smoking and expecting me to provide him with pipe and weed! The dear fellow!

Ah, I am so weary, but I sincerely doubt I shall be allowed to rest any time soon, not with so many lying under the same malady. Curse Sauron and his Rings! Oh, Merry, you dear, brave lad—what you have accomplished! But if you want pipeweed, I am not your man!

*chuckles* Ah, he's Strider still, I think, so fond of his hobbits! But that didn't stop him from giving Merry a few reproving words, which Merry quite deserved, I think!

As full of grief as he must have been for Halbarad's death and the loss of so many others, and as tired as he must have been after so long a ride after such a trial on the Paths of the Dead and such battles, he didn't have a great deal of energy, I feel, for being especially tender of Merry's feelings, particularly with the Hobbit's pack lying there by the bed! Heh!

Always loved that scene and glad for Aragorn's take on hobbits especially Merry during this tough time. :) ANd love the pipeweed bit-- like the humor in that.
