6 Recs for the History of Middle-earth series by amyfortuna

B2MeM Prompt and Path: Yellow Path, Favourite Book
Format: Recs list
Genre: Meta
Rating: See individual recs
Warnings: See individual recs
Characters: See individual recs
Pairings: See individual recs
Creator Notes: I struggled with this request, as I love the whole of Tolkien's universe so much it was extremely difficult to choose a favourite book. I finally resorted to the age-old you can only take one to a desert island, which do you choose?, which is when I realised I'd take the entire History of Middle-earth series!
Summary: Some recommendations for fanworks about characters only found in the History of Middle-earth series.

Tree-brother by Scribe of Mirrormere
Genre: Gen
Rating: T
Warnings: Character death
Characters: Daurin Tórin
Pairings: none

This is a short and lovely little fic about a very obscure character from BoLT, Daurin Tórin, who was a kinsman of Fëanor and who was killed in defence of the Trees when Morgoth and Ungoliant attacked them.

absolute beginners by cosmogyral
Genre: Drama
Rating: M
Warnings: Character death
Characters: Finrod, Andreth
Pairings: Finrod/Andreth

This story blows me away with its painful and lyrical magic. Finrod, about to die in Tol-in-Gaurhoth, has one last conversation with Andreth, and it's torture and joy all at the same time, and a fitting sequel to the Athrabeth itself.

The Brides of Death by beget
Genre: gen
Rating: G
Warnings: Creator choose not to use archive warnings
Characters: Andreth, OCs
Pairings: n/a

Andreth recalls one of the old tales of Men before they arrived in Beleriand. A story of cruel suffering and hope -- a true 'lost tale'.

Aikanar by lferion
Genre: Poetry
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Characters: Andreth, Aegnor
Pairings: Aegnor/Andreth

A short poem musing on the subject of moths and candle flames.

The Chief in a Village by Himring
Genre: Adventure
Rating: T
Warnings: Character death
Characters: Fingon, Lalwen, Fingolfin, others
Pairings: Fingon/Maedhros

A Gil-galad origin story, but much more than that. Lalwen, daughter of Finwë, does not make it into the Silmarillion despite her importance, and this story goes a good way to explaining why this might be. One of my favourites.

When All Other Lights Go Out by arrogantemu
Genre: Character Study
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Characters: Findis, Indis, Finwë, Fëanor, Fingolfin, Ilmarë
Pairings: None

A fascinating and complicated look at the House of Finwë, and why Findis, eldest daughter of Finwë and Indis, should choose her own path -- that of a hermit. A great exploration of a character about whom we know next to nothing.

(could I get a tag for character: daurin tórin please? )

Thanks for these recs! I remember thinking "The Brides of Death" was amazing, and I've also enjoyed the other fics on the list that I've read -- I'll have to check out the ones that I haven't.

I've added a tag for Daurin (Torin).
hhimring: Tolkien's monogram (Tolkien)

Thank you very much for the rec!
And thank you very much for the other recs, especially arrogantemu's which I had previously missed and which I have just read.

I agree, the History is a fabulous grouping of volumes and I wouldn't be without mine. I'll have to check out your list of recs more closely. I'm quite sure I'll find some very interesting things in there.
