Bard and the Arkenstone

Bard stared at the thing in his hand, beautiful beyond any imaginings, it seemed to glow with a light of its own. He shuddered, and very carefully laid it down upon the table. With effort he let go, one finger at a time. He looked up to see the Elven-king looking at him with an expression of pity and understanding in his eyes. Then both of them turned to look at the pavilion's opening, through which a very valiant, clever little creature had so recently passed.

He had never before seen such bravery and generosity in such a small package

Yay for Bilbo.

I can't wait to see Bard in the film.

I love it when hobbits are given the admiration that's due them.

Oh, yes, its own allure. And the characterization of our Esteemed Burglar is spot on!

(I still remember the one fic I read in which it was held that the Arkenstone was in reality the Silmaril that went into the earth with Maedhros. For some reason this tale manages to bring that tale to mind!)
