Authors Notes: This sort of is a prequel to Aftermath which I wrote for Day 1 & 2 of the challenge.
He had spent so much time in his life like this. Sword out fighting against numerous foes – many more than the small band of rangers he currently had with him. He could remember times in Rohan against the Dunlendings and in Gondor against the various foes that threatened that land. Now it was his people, the Northern Dúnedain, who he fought to protect from the foes that endangered them and their very survival. Such had been the lot of the Chieftains for so many years and several had given their lives for their people. Including his father and grandfather whose untimely deaths had left him the nominal Chieftain at a young age. So it was he had gone to Rivendell with his mother and like his predecessors before him learnt the skills of a warrior from Glorfindel and Elrond’s twin sons Elrohir & Elladan. He had been taught from a young age by them, rather than starting later, and was considered to be an exceptional warrior by the Rangers – yes he did have elvish ways as he had been accused in his youth on first joining the Rangers. However those ways came from his training and not only was he a warrior, indeed a captain of warriors, but he was also a healer much respected for his abilities.
For this moment however he needed to be the warrior until this orcs had been vanquished. The numbers from the Misty Mountains had recovered to their former levels since the Battle of the Five Armies. Now they often threatened the Dúnedain dwellings in the Angle as they had in time past. Now as then they had to be fought and defeated by the warriors of the Dúnedain. He preferred the role of healer to warrior, but he was trained and needed as a warrior, so at this time that was what he was. The healer would be needed later of that he had no doubt.
