B2MeM Challenge: B2MeM 2016: Memories. B2MeM 2015: Song prompt - "Skellig" by [livejournal.com profile] huinare: I could see this Loreena McKennit song applying to many characters in the Legendarium. Is this character contented with their simple life of religious/spiritual seclusion? Or lonely? What has caused them to take this path? OCs welcome.
Format: Ficlet (c.900 words)
Genre: Character Study
Rating: PG
Warnings: somewhat cloudy concept of spirituality; hints of mental unease
Characters: Findis, daughter of Finwe and Indis; Finarfin, her brother
Pairings: n/a
Creators' Notes (optional): Begun as a possible sequence for this year's B2MeM; this part finished for Legendarium Ladies April, which has just started (http://legendariumladiesapril.tumblr.com): Poetry Prompt for 2 April: New Year’s Resolutions, by Susan Sontag: Kindness, kindness, kindness. I want to make a New Year’s prayer, not a resolution. I’m praying for courage. Also: Quenya names used (Arafinwe, Finwe-Arafinwe: Finarfin; Feanaro: Feanor)
Summary: Already previously, I had written of Findis choosing the life of a hermit living on the slopes of Taniquetil after the Darkening and her departure from Tirion. But this is a piece from her own POV.

B2MeM Challenge: B2MeM 2016: Memories. B2MeM 2015: Middle Earth Market-place: Maedhros and His Various Non-Elven Allies (prompt by the-disposessed). B2MeM 2012 Bingo: Love in Middle-earth card: B10: Across all the ages of Arda; All OCs, All the Time card: G46: A servant
Format: short story (c.2400 words)
Genre: gen
Rating: PG
Warnings: very mild sexual content (almost bromance-compatible); very general references to canon violence; vague allusions to mental issues;
Characters: Maedhros, OFC (Fingon's porter in Tirion), Fingon
Pairings: Maedhros/Fingon
Creators' Notes: Part of my Maedhros saga; mildly AU by some standards. Some use of Quenya names: mainly "Findekano" for Fingon; also Nolofinwe=Fingolfin; Nelyafinwe Maitimo=Maedhros). Some sections in First Person (OFC). Also, for American readers: I am using "porter" in the sense "employee in charge of watching the entrance" here (a British sense).
Summary: Maedhros has recently been re-embodied  after a very long time in Mandos and is living in Fingon's household in Tirion. During a temporary absence of Fingon's, he has been pursuing a writing project. At this point, he makes the closer acquaintance of a member of Fingon's household. (The text briefly alludes to a critical encounter with Fingolfin, which took place a little previously to this episode.)

B2MeM Challenge: 2015, Elfhelm's Fine Saddles, [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland said;

Eomer and Lothíriel have a son, Elfwine the Fair, who must be about Eldarion's age. With a name like that, I bet he's a hellion - he'd have to be, wouldn't he? - doubtless with mad equestrian skillz.

This may not have quite gone where she expected it to...

But it also fits 2012 bingo cards - Talents and skill, G46 - writing.

Format: short story - 1515 words
Genre: General
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None
Characters: Elfwine, mention of his family members and OFC,

Creators' Notes; this is set in the same 'verse' as my Éomer/Lothíriel story 'Cushions', some 20 years after the closing scene.

Title, description, summary, cover, binding, endpapers, the art of book-binding, illumination or anything related, or a story about one particular book, be it its creation, history, content, or just playing a major role in any kind of story. It doesn’t have to be a complete work/book either. Anything goes here, provided it centers around anything that has to do with the Library of Rivendell." - [livejournal.com profile] the_winterwitch
Format: catalogue, WIP
Genre: meta
Rating: General
Warnings: none
Characters: Erestor
Pairing: Rivendell's librarian/books
Summary:
Erestor tries hard to keep track of Rivendell's growing number of books. It can be a bit of a struggle, especially in March...
Creator's Notes:
Please help by submitting any books or literary works you invent for B2MeM 2015 fanworks in the comments to this post (with link to the post, if possible). They don't have to be invented for a Rivendell book prompt to be included, but it would be appreciated if you mentioned briefly how the work ended up in the Rivendell library, if your fanwork itself doesn't already make it obvious!
ETA 2016: I never finished this--but I thought I'd re-post: partly as a rec list for last year's B2MeM stories and partly to throw it open more widely. If  in a fic of yours you invented a book or manuscript contained in the Rivendell library, whether it was for B2MeM 2015 or not, you are invited to let me know in the comments. (Not sure whether I can manage any Erestor snark for new accessions...)

Genre: Gen, character study, friendship
Rating: PG (references to war, but nothing graphic)
Warnings: None
Characters: Original character, Aragorn

B2MEM Challenge: I29: ghazal (Poetic Forms), What is the most tedious, routine work that you have to do? Write down a few tedious or routine tasks that you're sometimes required to perform. How does doing routine work make you feel? Would you like to have somebody do it for you? Now write a story, poem or create an artwork where characters have to deal with tedious jobs.

B2MEM 2015: Khamûl’s Sulfurous Exfoliants (for my prompt. This ficlet is slightly inspired by, but not officially related to, the crackfic inspired by same last year.)
Format: ficlet, poetry
Genre: Crack, probably. Also romance? Ish? Humor? Depends on what you find funny…I laughed so hard writing it…
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Um. Do not eat or drink anything while reading.
Characters: Khamûl, Ringwraiths
Pairings: Three/you’ll see
Creator’s Notes (optional): This came to me when I was rereading the Poetic Forms card, and saw “ghazal” which to me sounded like a Ringwraith name or something. I asked my friend Anda what a Ringwraith might write poetry about, and she said “Find out.” Challenge accepted….and now I feel weird.
Summary: At Tharbad’s Greenway Spring Faire one year, Wraith Three whiles away the time between customers by jotting down some poetry that was running through his head. He never expected the subject of his poetry to find it…

B2MeM Challenge: 2015 Tharbad's Greenway Spring Faire, Denethor's Armoury (Gondor); Boromir preparing to leave for Rivendell for the council
Format: Short Story
Genre: Family
Rating: G
Warnings: n/a
Characters: Boromir, Faramir, Denethor
Pairings: n/a

Creators' Notes (optional): [livejournal.com profile] grey_wonderer submitted the following prompt for the characters of Boromir and Faramir (Denethor optional) -- Boromir preparing to leave for Rivendell for the council, perhaps a discussion between the two brothers? Or two POV's: written from how Boromir sees things then written again with Faramir's POV on events. (and if you want, go a third time through with Denethor's thoughts) Or just write it once in the way that seems best to you. :)

Summary: Boromir and Faramir wrestle with the decision of what is to be done after they both receive a summons by means of a mysterious, riddling dream.

B2MEM Challenge: Young Faramir (5-15) is tired of being second best to his brother. He's tired of being belittled and punished for small things. He's tired of his father not understanding him. He's especially tired of his brother always having to protect him. He runs away. Does he make it out of Gondor? Does he ever come back? What happens to him in the end? If he comes back, why does he? Was it in vain; will anything change? It's all up to you.

Also, alternatively, how does Boromir feel about this? Does he miss his brother? Will he search, and/or obey his father? Will he help Faramir overcome it?

"We are learning to make a fire." (I didn't take this as literally as I might have. But the "fire" of revolution is coming...)

Format: Ficlet
Genre: Family, AU
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Mention of Denethor's madness, kitten cuteness
Characters: Denethor II, Hurin of the Keys (as a child), Gondorian OCs, and a kitten
Pairings:
Creator's Notes: This is the continuation of "Isildurchil Dithen". Chapters Prologue-8 can be found either at AO3 or on this Livejournal, but the end of Chapter Eight is reproduced here to help things along.
Summary: Mallor, the young guard who let Captain Targon escape with young Faramir, was condemned to die by the maddened Steward. But when Captain Haldorn was commanded to execute his nephew - could he perhaps find another way? And with news of Faramir's flight, just how long will Dol Amroth be content to remain removed from the coming storm?

B2MeM Challenge: Middle-Earth marketplace 2015. The prompt was to create a fanwork that answers one of the questions on this test on the Tolkien Sarcasm page. I chose question 8 - if Frodo hung the Ring on a chain, why didn't the chain turn invisible? – and turned the question over to Middle Earth's sharpest minds. Well, to Merry and Pippin, anyway.

Format: Short story
Genre: Humour
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Characters: Pippin and Merry, with some Frodo, Elrond and Gandalf
Pairings: None

Summary: "The caterpillar started it." Merry and Pippin are infected with a sudden bout of investigative fervour. Can Rivendell cope with two lively hobbits whose hunger for answers threatens to surpass even their hunger for food?

B2MeM Challenge: I wrote Trials of Manhood in response to the following prompt: "While Aragorn is travelling during his time as Thorongil [...] he meets up with Gandalf, who is likewise travelling. They share an adventure..." The Shadow of War is, in part, a sort-of sequel to this original challenge response, posted here with permission.

Format: Novel (now complete)
Genre: Drama. Adventure. General
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Characters: Aragorn, Pippin, Éowyn, Éomer, Mablung of Gondor and various OCs (POV characters). Also Merry, Faramir, Arwen, Legolas and Gimli (non POV characters.)
Pairings: Aragorn/Arwen and Éowyn/Faramir, but these aren't the focus of the story
Author's Notes: I call it a sort-of sequel to Trials of Manhood, since there are many plot threads that don't relate to the original story. It's set some 60 years later, and you have to get some way into the story before the sequel nature becomes obvious, but it is there, honest!

Summary: It's fourteen years since the fall of Sauron, and Gondor is at peace. But old enemies are stirring beyond her borders, and some have infiltrated Minas Tirith itself, and are waiting for the time to strike...

Creators' Notes (optional): I could not help it, when I saw the prompts "cave" and "waterfall" in such close proximity they all but shouted at me. It took me a while to find my voice in this; originally I wanted to do this as a "frame story" with Faramir recounting it to the hobbits, but it was rather clunky. Not until I decided on Mablung as my POV character did it begin to flow.
