Summary: Life is a game, in the end, and he takes it seriously. Umbar challenges Matt Cauthon...
They played chess in Gondor.
This he knew. Growing up one of Umbar's sons, his becoming King was as real a possibility as was the sea, and one just learned those things about one's enemies.
He was good at chess. But he was much better at this, his native game of tables, for Gondorians called fortune fate, swayed with it-- he knew it for what it was, was not afraid to make it happen.
One roll of the dice, two, and he would find himself King of Umbar. Then the real game would begin.
