B2MeM Challenge: O72, Diners' Club (bacon) and Food (vegetables)
Format: Ficlet
Title: Overheard on a Terrace
Genre: Gen/Humour
Rating: G/K
Warnings: Some humour
Characters: Frodo, Pippin, Sam, Merry
Pairings: N/A
Summary: The four hobbits share luncheon in Minas Tirith following the Quest. Much ado about food ensues.
"It's good."
"Mm-hm. Crunchy."
"I like the bacon the best. Crispy bacon."
"Broccoli salad isn't proper broccoli salad without crispy bacon." Frodo gave Pippin a look. "Haven't I taught you *anything* about cooking?"
Pippin grinned. "But they made it here. Big Folk. I didn't think they knew how to make proper broccoli salad here."
"They know how to make right near everything here, I reckon," said Sam. "Broccoli salad, and glazed carrots made with honey, and them little green peas, and that cauliflower with cheese over it is as nice as anything you'll find back home. Though I don't reckon their mushrooms are as good as a Shire receipt...though they have some kinds here I hadn't never seen before."
"None of us have," said Frodo, "but I haven't found one yet I dislike."
"Me neither," said Merry. "But then, I haven't found much of *anything* here I dislike in the way of food."
"Me neither," said Sam. "I don't reckon I'll ever do much disliking again, not after..."
All four hobbits shuddered.
It was Pippin, though, who broke the silence at last.
"Frodo?"
"Yes?"
"Do you want the last of that broccoli salad?"
-the end-
