B2MeM Challenge: i27 Gondorian History: The Burning of Osgiliath; b9 Scientific Achievement: Metalwork
Format: Drabble
Genre: Drama
Rating: General
Warnings: None
Characters: Vinyarion (grandson of Eldacar, later named Hyarmendacil II)
Pairings: None
Summary: A case of survivor's guilt.
Rhovanion dusk was redder, more intense than sundown in Gondor; and, watching, Vinyarion wondered yet again if Arien had bled for Osgiliath as it burned, or if only Tilion had witnessed the atrocities committed there. Had it rained? Had the dome been destroyed? The library? The market? The jeweler's where he'd intended to have rings made? Had the smithy been raided, before? After all these weeks since the news came, he could still barely contain the nausea, the regret.
He was Vinyarion Aldamir's son, thanks to Castamir now heir to Gondor's throne, and he would live to make him pay.
