B2MeM Challenge: b4 Canon Couples: Beren/Lúthien; Economy: Luxury Items; Games: Darts; Rangers of the North: Gilraen
Format: Drabble
Genre: Romance/General
Rating: General
Warnings: None
Characters: Gilraen, Arathorn
Pairings: Arathorn/Gilraen
Summary: Taking a cue from history is never a bad idea.
They were spending an inordinate amount of time together, yet nothing ever came of it-- except Dírhael never lacked for wood, the roof was thatched again, the weeds pulled out of the garden, Ivorwen always had her water, and conversation.
One day Gilraen ventured to say, "Beren searched for a silmaril in pursuit of Lúthien."
"And look what came of it," Arathorn said, making himself blind to the dart.
"We would not be here, otherwise."
"But they died."
"The point here," she said, aiming more to the purpose, "is that Lúthien followed him. She knew what she wanted."
He understood.
