Back to Middle-earth Month

Oh, my. I hadn't thought of that passage in a long time. Magical on every level. That's why I write fantasy and not mystery novels based in Brooklyn or Mexico City. The epic truths for me about people and relationships and the creative process are often easier to tell through the fantastical and magical. I don't tell the reader that the wondrous things in life are magic; that would be the stuff of a Hallmark greeting card. I approach those things through the back door and try to show the wonder in another way. Not saying other genres of storytelling are not legitimate, just saying why I personally like to read and write fantasy.
