My apologies for the belated review, but here I am at last!
I read this when it first posted, and burned through it like lightning, and with successive readings (per zopyrus' comment above mine), it is such an excellent short story! You know how strongly I embrace your vision of the women of the Dúnedain, and Burdens of the Wise, I believe, will prove to be among the foundation fics for the Dúnedain Matriarch Manifesto.
I love Ivorwen's voice here - she speaks to me as a reader in a solidly authentic way, as she continues to suffer from the scattering of her children though death (a heavy loss there), duty, and sequestration away from the world of Men. Really, all the characters are so appealing and interesting (OMG, I love Adanel!), and the way you portray Ivorwen and Dírhael is wonderful. In fact, Burdens of the Wise and Terms of Endearment (thoroughly enjoyed that and will comment as I slowly make my way through the B2MeM 2014 offerings) are fantastic bookends.
The details, the setting, the atmosphere - all contribute to good world-building in a short fic.
Yes, your vision rings true with me, and tempts me to poach from the Suz!verse - with permission and acknowledgment, naturally! :^)
