and not really needing him back suggested that (aside from the rather sour-grapes feel to that remark) their marriage not only dissolved but Indis had some agency in that.

I am dying laughing at this. Exactly! He basically flips off Indis and her sons, and his responsibility to his people, when he makes a decision to follow Feanor to Formenos. He might or might not have given a backward glance to Indis to say, "are you coming with me or not?" Which is neither here nor there in any case, because how could she go with him? Feanor has gone out of his way to let her know he loathes her.

about Indis being apart from him for some years and not really needing him back suggested that (aside from the rather sour-grapes feel to that remark) their marriage not only dissolved but Indis had some agency in that

I think he did expect her to follow him and then resented that she did not! There must have been a whole period of relaxing of their ties to one another prior to that incident also.

Fantastic story. I look forward to coming back to it in the future. It really is unique, resonates with me, and explains her in a very satisfying way. It meets my criteria for great Silm characterization by making her understandable and alive, without flying in the face of the canon that surrounds her.
