Gil-galad is, of course, himself half-Sindarin and more than half-raised by Cirdan, but then holding the title of High King of the Noldor in and of itself ties him to certain assumptions of leadership. This also foreshadows future decisions of Oropher and the terrible losses to his people in the Last Alliance. I find myself torn, feeling sympathy with both sides in this discussion.
