Thank you - I'm so pleased you like him, and his story.
I thought that there must be many families who, despite everything, are not reunited considering how the elves, over all the millennia, have faced death and destruction so often. Although the characters back in Middle Earth expected him to be reunited with his parents, and get his happy ending, I wondered how he felt about that - and what might it be like if they weren't there?
And I have thought, for a long time, that a hobbit without a family is a hobbit bereft...
Sooooo very precious with his blankie and toy horse.
I could just see a child in these circumstances clinging to a couple of familiar objects. And he has no real memory of his parents, so clung to reminders of those who re-awakened him. 'Haldirin's Nana' gave him the blanket, and 'Haldirin's Uncle Orophin' carved the horse for him because he was frightened of horses when he first saw one - but those facts were unnecessary clutter for this story - just a link back for anyone who remembered the tale in which he "walked into summer".
I do hope you enjoy some of the other parts, too. The young adult Tharhîwon is reacquainted with Haldirin, and Haldirin's family, in 'Immigrants' which is part of the same on-going series.
