Elderflower cordial is fairly concentrated - I would dilute it by about 1:8 I think, to make a drink from it.
It was really rather nice to go back and look at this period, and how Tharîwon and Frodo became a family.
I could see the household of Elrond and Celebrían being a friendly and welcoming place... for an adult. But simply being too big and rather too beautiful, perhaps, for an elfling who was the equivalent of a five year old to feel comfortable in. Especially as, to start with, he was seen very much as a temporary visitor just waiting for his parents to arrive. I could actually see Celebrían trying not to get too fond of him to start with.
Elrond is very fond of Frodo and understands, I think, how much the hobbit will have been affected by Bilbo's death; so I really do think he is trying to give Frodo peace and quiet because he feels it is what is needed. Just that Frodo recognises, himself, that he is better kept occupied - particularly as Tharîwon so clearly likes his company.
