Thank you! I, too, wonder how long he left those pages blank... and what he wrote in them when he returned to them. The first editions of The Hobbit tell a very different tale from editions published post Lord of the Rings. Like Tolkien, I rationalise this by saying that Bilbo did indeed initially write a false account in his memoirs, which he (or Frodo?) later changed. But in this story, Bilbo wasn't quite ready to do that, so I let him postpone the decision.
