I love this so much. Melancholy is the perfect word for the feeling LotR evokes in me, of beautiful things passing away and being lost forever. Eowyn isn't a character I give much thought to, but this account of how she doesn't fit in to Elrond's house and the elvish society around her humanises her for me. I really liked the little details: the elves' movement, the differences in the songs' topics, Faramir's upbringing vs Eowyn's, and Eowyn's realisation that Elves are also impermanent.
