Thank you, hhimring! I really wanted to bring out the setting details, because I think during those hours of "calm before the storm", the details of life would really stand out to Halbarad, even as he was trying to calm himself with thoughts of home. I think by this point he was very accepting of his fate, and so thoughts of death weren't so much on his mind as thoughts of hope for those he was leaving behind, including his cousin, the soon-to-be king. (And of course, the need to shake off the horrors of watching a ghost army, which was terrifying even knowing they were allies!)
