What a lovely story! As the other readers mentioned, sad, but hopeful, and so quite in Tolkien's sense.. Sadly I have never read "The Fall of Gondolin" and can't remember quite what happened to the fugitives after they had crossed that dreadful pass where Glorfindel's sacrifice saved them. (Reading Egalmoth's account of this reminded me of Dragonlady's heartbreaking "Death of Ecthelion" fic, which I love) Didn't the host stay together with Tuor and Idril and eventually reached the coast ? I love your portrayal of Egalmoth, I am fond of him because he is such a wonderful character in your Gondolin fics. Orneredh is very likable, but puzzles me a bit: is she an elf (she says she is born in Doriath) or a Maja from Valinor (as a "handmaiden of Yavanna") ? She would need almost supernatural talents to achieve so much, and always alone through all those travels. I wasn't familiar with the story of "johnny Appleseed" either, very interesting! (But how many years does it take for a tree to grow from a seed until it actually bears fruit?) Somewhere I read that the yellow flowers on Glorfindel's grave were lesser Celandines, no?. I'm afraid I am less than fond of that dreadful weed - it covers my whole garden in Spring!! I must apologize again for being so late in reading and commenting!
