This makes my heart ache. Merry has always been my favorite, and it always makes me so happy to see fics written from his POV. And this, here, seeing him in his old age--it brings its own sense of bittersweet.
Seeing the changes come to Rohan was bittersweet, too, in its own way. I think I side with Pippin in the end, but--I have fellow-feeling with Eomer as well. And you portray both sides so vividly.
And that last image...not crying, nope, not a bit, there's just something in my eye...
