What a really fun story. My response to the bells on the horse the first time I heard it were fairly similar to Erestor's.
I loved the nursery rhyme when I was a kid:
Ride a cock-horse to Banbury Cross, To see a fine lady upon a white horse; Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, And she shall have music wherever she goes.
It sounded a little over-the-top for an important Elf Lord who might be a balrog-slayer. I giggled like a fool when I read this part.
“I heard a rumor that he puts bells on his fucking horse.”
“Not a rumor,” Celebrian informed him with a pat on the shoulder.
I also really loved this quip by Erestor:
some narcissistic Noldo passing himself off as a high and mighty Vanya
