Very poignant, given our knowledge that this was to be their last meeting. Like others, I, too, am wondering how different things might have been had Faramir been the one to set off on the journey. Wildly different, perhaps - no Breaking of the Fellowship, perhaps, and perhaps no madness, and therefore death, of Denethor. But what I'm now picturing even more than that is the image of Faramir so immersed in the archives of Rivendell that he almost misses the Fellowship's departure, and has to run after them, his packs stuffed full of all his scrawled copies and transcriptions...
